What is Playmation?

Playmation is a filmmaking technique using hands to manipulate toys, legos, puppets, etc. on screen to replicate the feeling of playing with toys as a child. Our team has been pioneering and perfecting this craft for the past 10 years, embracing practical film techniques while also using the same cutting-edge technology utilized by leading stop-action animation houses.

Why Playmation?

Our films bring toys to life in a similar style to stop-action animation. Children’s minds are especially engaged as seeing hands on-screen helps them visualize themselves acting out scenes with the toys, encouraging learning through creative play. And while it takes the average stop-action animation crew an entire week to shoot just one minute of footage, we can shoot a full 15 minute short in one week, bringing down production costs considerably. It is also much easier to dub our films for international distribution since no mouth movement is seen.

Who is Playmation?

Playmation began when we created our first original production “The Happy Family Show”, a popular webseries which ran for 7 seasons. During this time we also began working with larger brands like NBC Universal and DreamWorks Animation to produce branded content to advertise the toy lines of their various properties. Our team began as a collaboration between two siblings (Christine and Kevin Jones) and has grown to include a whole host of creative professionals.
